Judith O’Reilly author of Wife in the North has teamed up with the Northumberland Gazette to kick-off a fundraising appeal called the Jam Jar Army for HospiceCare North Northumberland.
The Jam Jar Army is aiming to raise £10,000 by asking people to fill a jam jar with coins for the hospice.
“When I was growing up there was a poor box in our house, and we filled it with coppers. Not policemen. They wouldn’t fit. But coins. Good idea huh? Most of us don’t have a poor box anymore – but we do have a jam jar. So, why not join us – empty your pockets and fill a jam jar with change,” says Judith.
HospiceCare North Northumberland is a wonderful community nurse-led service that works with people with life limiting conditions. It provides support for more than 250 families each year, from centres in Alnwick and Berwick and costs £1,250 per day to run.
I’ve raised money in the past for HospiceCare by participating in the Boxing Day Dip at Whitley Bay and the Northumberland Coastal Walk.
The Jam Jar Army campaign runs until September. Judith is looking to recruit children and grown-ups to her army to help fill jam jars. She’s also seeking venues to act as collection points across the county.
Head over to the Jam Jar army web site or Facebook page for more information or call HospiceCare on 01665 606 515 and start collecting.
